The Process of Converting a PSD to HTML or Other Formats

Converting a PSD file to formats such as xhtml/css or wordpress themes is a process, just like anything else in web design.

1. Receive the PSD and go over with client.
Once I receive the PSD file, I will go over with the client the entire psd file, ask for specific instructions and make sure there is an understanding of what they would like done with the PSD coding process through confirming on every need. Doing this so later on the client will be happier and that there is no later miscommunication issues.

2. Slice PSD file to facilitate images, certain blocks and zones of the website
Once we receive the PSD file, we inspect every single element, placements, layers and the intended design. We then slice the appropriate layers, backgrounds, create images for any graphics. We make note of any graphic sizes, widths and heights for particular zones of the website. We take note if the zones are fixed or flexible widths and heights and listen to our client to make note of any of these special areas.

3. Diligently code all of the sections of the psd in their appropriate places.
Scripting and styling the website using XHTML 1.0 strict markup language & Cascading Style Sheets and if there is a certain script or php CMS that is called for, have the loops and framework’s of those respective CMS (i.e. WordPress) coded into format.

4. Check the W3C validity of the file, making sure that all code is compliant and that no missteps have been made.
We will check for the validity and see if the newly coded design fits all W3C compliance specifications for the way it was coded and the css as well too!

5. Present to the customer, go over any tweaks if necessary.
We will then show the link to the customer and if there is any tweaks that are needed to be made, we will go over them and make sure they are rectified before we finish the deal. After the client is happy, we will then accept payment from the client and they will receive their newly coded design with any instructions if needed be!
